ABAC Endorses H.R. 2707

Arlington, Virginia - The American Biodefense Action Coalition (ABAC) today announced their endorsement of H.R. 2707, the Protecting American Families and Servicemembers from Anthrax Act. H.R. 2707, bipartisan legislation introduced by Rep. Don Davis and Rep. Jen Kiggans, will shore up America’s preparedness for the Anthrax threat.

Anthrax, a Category-A pathogen per the CDC guidelines, maintains a Material Threat Determination (MTD) as designated by the Department of Homeland Security. The MTD is a result of America’s adversaries’ offensive anthrax programs, that have driven significant concern that this pathogen could be weaponized against Americans.

H.R. 2707 represents a key piece of legislation designed to bolster preparedness for the threat of Anthrax by modernizing the nation’s preparedness strategy, requiring the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS) to meet their Anthrax countermeasure requirement, and hold the Stockpile accountable by requiring annual reports to Congress on their Anthrax preparedness efforts.

ABAC looks to educate the public on the importance of H.R. 2707 in Congress, through a six-figure investment. This investment is targeted via issue advocacy at select members of the House Armed Services Committee and House Energy & Commerce Committee, where H.R. 2707 has been referred.
